With the cloud-based MDM solution (mobile device management) Enterprise Mobile Manager 2013, companies can centrally manage and configure their mobile devices, quickly install company applications on the devices and block unwanted applications via white- or blacklisting, according to the Swiss manufacturer Apptec. According to Apptec, the solution is scalable, multi-client capable and, in addition to alerts, also offers meaningful, expandable reports.
Thanks to an intuitive, web-based management console, IT can manage mobile devices from any computer at any time, according to Apptec. Thanks to multi-tenant architecture and a multi-level role model with LDAP integration, an IT organization can manage different domains of several customers, and the SaaS (Software as a Service) licensing means that there is no large initial investment.
Apptec emphasizes that the software interface is intuitive and can be used without extensive training. A self-service portal also allows end users to manage various functions themselves.
The in-house push/pull technology is used to keep network data traffic between client and server to a minimum: Only changes or new policies would be transmitted to the clients. The solution offers audit-proof logging to ensure the traceability of the actions carried out, and user-relevant data can only be read out by entering two passwords in accordance with the dual control principle for high data protection requirements.
As well as being available from the cloud, the solution is also available as a virtual appliance for local operation. The virtual appliance server runs on Windows Server and all major Linux distributions. On the client side, the solution requires Apple IOS version 3.0 or higher, or Google Android version 2.3 or higher. Apptec plans to support clients with Windows Phone 8 from the second quarter of this year.
